Eating and moving around the globe

January 23, 2012 § 5 Comments

Boy, I’m definitely starting to feel the travel bug biting again. Andrew is in Melbourne enjoying some summer right now….definitely a little jealous…

I recently found these short films by Rick Mereki. Funnily enough, they were picked up by STA Travel Australia for promotional purposes.

EAT

MOVE

While the thought of 16+ hour flights, long waits in train stations, and sleepless nights all kinda make me want to throw away my passport, I know that all the logistical nightmares are totally worth it when it comes to travel.

My top five wish list destinations/countries:

1.  Brazil
2. Argentina
3. India
4. Northern California
5. Istanbul, Turkey

Giant mirror gives anyone superhero powers

January 22, 2012 § 1 Comment

This amazing, massive installation from Brazilian artist Leandro Erlich made me practically jump up with delight.
The facade of a building is projected on the ground, a giant mirror is set up, and ta-da! UH-mazing.
This exhibit is at Le 104 in Paris. ahhhh people are so creative!

Many thanks to one of my favorite blogs, Colossal, for showing me this.

I’m looking forward to a nice relaxing Sunday. It’s supposed to storm all day, which means I will be inside with movies, books, and music.

the Dansko ankle roll

January 21, 2012 § 5 Comments

I already had the idea for this post a few weeks ago and a tweet from my sister-in-law last night has prompted me to go ahead and post it.
I have a burning question for the world at large:

is it possible to get through a day of wearing Danskos without one single ankle roll?

Because personally, I THINK NOT.

Happy Friday Y’all ::: January 20, 2012

January 20, 2012 § 2 Comments

Work today, but looking forward to a fancy dinner date at Louis Le Francais tonight. Andrew leaves tomorrow morning for Australia on a work trip. He’ll be gone a week–it will just be me and the Bageldog hanging around.

I’ve got yoga all day tomorrow and a busy week at work coming up, but I’ve still got some fun stuff on my agenda:

1. finish watching Homeland
2. label my jars
3. visit with a brand new baby–one my bestest friends is having her second little girl any day now!
4. Eat lots. Drink lots.
5. Yoga lots.

Happy weekend everyone–holler at me on twitter or Facebook! I’ll be around!

Also, I am a guest blogger on Secondary Embarrassment today– I throw out some extra snarky comments on the Bachelor premiere! Go check it out!

Some of my favorite photos of us & stuff in London

January 19, 2012 § 2 Comments

To celebrate finishing my dissertation in June 2010, we went to London for a long weekend from Edinburgh. These are some of my favorite photos from that trip.
By the way, London = my favorite place in Europe.

I put Andrew through a weekend of musicals–Les Miserables and Wicked on back-to-back nights! He ended up loving it.

Carhartt is fancy in London.

We were just learning how to use our camera on this trip…had to add filters on most of these to make them blog-worthy. Ha!

I’ve got a thing for Crayons

January 18, 2012 § 4 Comments

I’ve always loved Crayons, but something lately has me loving them even more. It started several months ago when I found this amazing DIY art project on a great blog, Whatever:
At the time I didn’t have any large canvases on hand, so I had to make do with three little ones. I have these in my mud room, visible when you first walk in the back door. I love looking at them every time I get home:

Here is some more nifty crayon art:
Carved Crayons by Pete Goldlust

Sculpted Crayons by Diem Chau
large scale sculptures by Herb Williams
Pointillism in portraiture by Christian Faur

I don’t know about you, but I want to go color now.

long weekend in photos

January 17, 2012 § Leave a Comment

Back to the grind today. Great long weekend full of food, laundry, awards shows, pageants, meditating, organizing, and baking. Here are some photos:

We had to take Mr. Forrest to the vet, he has had a pretty bad limp. Turns out he has a little carpal tunnel in his front legs! Freshly mopped floors + a pup who has trouble walking = cuddle session in the kitchen. Luckily he seems to be much better today.

My Golden Globes Best Dressed

January 16, 2012 § Leave a Comment

Awards show season is my NFL playoffs…I love watching them and being horribly opinionated with family and friends. We had a great time watching with my parents last night. Tons of food, drink, and twittering! Thank god for iPads!

After reviewing the gowns this morning, I only came up with two that I liked enough for a “best dressed” list…
Here’s my best dressed:

I guess I have a thing for sleeves?

paper cuts with Peter Callesen

January 14, 2012 § 3 Comments

After checking out January 10th’s Kirtsy slideshow, amazingly curated by Kirtsy, I was reminded of something Andrew discovered a couple years ago.
Danish artist Peter Callesen is so clever–what fantastic ideas and skills. Also, I am a complete sucker for shadowboxes!
