Always love this episode of Fresh Air every year. This one is particularly good, including a moment when Terry laughs uncontrollably at an audio clip from Fear Factor. Priceless!

Year End Lists: National Geographic Photos of 2011
December 20, 2011 § Leave a Comment
I love December. Not just because of the holidays, but because December brings about one of my most favorite elements of pop culture: the end of year list. I have shared some my favorites and have some more to come soon, but I would much rather consume these lists than make them myself.
Today one of my favorites was published–the results of National Geographic’s photography contest. Every year these boggle my mind.
Favorites of 2011: Watch

In my opinion, 2011 was a dismal year for feature films. Normally, I would try to post separately on movies and TV…but I can barely come up with any movies I liked enough to list!! So sad!
I have a lot of TV that I love, but I’ll only list a few…here are my favorite “watches” of 2011:

Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO) Bridesmaids

American Horror Story (FX) 50/50
There are several movies I’ve yet to see that might qualify—December is a crazy month for film always!!
Best of 2011: Listens
December 4, 2011 § 2 Comments
I have made my love of podcasts very clear, but I also love music and can pretty much always be found listening to something. Be it music, podcast, public radio, or an audiobook, I MUST be listening to something while performing almost any daily task such as cleaning, cooking, driving, folding, washing, running, blogging…
Evidence can be found in these photos from this evening–home from work on a rainy night=big sweaters, slippers, wine, and DANCE PARTY, preferably to some of the music listed below.
These are some of my most favorite “listens” of 2011:

Ellie Goulding Lights Bon Iver Bon Iver

Cut Copy Zonoscope Adele 21

The Book of Mormon Tina Fey Bossypants

Lady Antebellum Own the Night Drive Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Two Gomers Run for Their Lives NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour

Feist Metals Foster the People Torches

St. Vincent Strange Mercy Lykke Li Wounded Rhymes
I’m sure this list will change very soon–I always discover tons of new music this time of year from all the Best of 2011 lists that pop up, especially via the NPR’s All Songs Considered podcast discussion.
Also, check out this “love letter to audiobooks” from Scarlett Curtis — a pretty good summary of why listening is awesome.
Today I’m thankful for…

This is a personal blog, thus I have to do a corny “what I’m thankful for” post right?
Today I’m thankful for:
coffee
90 Seconds of Segway crashes
hair that is finally long enough to braid
A nice & cozy new house
cute doggies
3 years of marital success!
work
Spotify
