life is better with…Oliver Jeffers

Amazing right?
I’m reading Oliver Jeffers books all week to kids at school and we are all loving it. He’s pretty much perfect. Not only does he do many, many wonderful picture books, but has some truly enchanting iPad versions of his books! Read by the one and only Helena Bonham Carter!?!? The kids go crazy for this. Dying. Check it out:

I can’t really explain why Dina Kelberman‘s tumblr, I’m Google, is so amazing. It’s kinda something you just have to go check out for yourself. Go to the link or any of these photos, then immediately start slowly scrolling down and taking in the photos.
Don’t worry, it’s not a prank or nsfw, it’s just inexplicably cool in the way that art on that internet usually is. People are so dang creative and I love it.

The artist Hong Yi goes by the nickname “Red.” She’s about as adorable as these illustrations she does using edible items.
Follow her on instagram for some regular day brightening.

This week at work was crazy busy….two words for you: Book Fair. BOOOOOOOOO.
Of course I love that it allows me to have additional funds for my library, I do admit that it is one big pain in the you know what. I tried to brighten each day this week by reading Sleep Like a Tiger by Mary Logue, illustrated by Pamela Zagarenski. I love Zagarenski’s illustrations…they are to die. She also did this book, which is fabulous as well.
life is better with…this Austrian festival!

I mean…come on. I somehow have never heard of the Bregenz Festival in Austria until this week. While I’m not much of an opera fan (being forced to sit through La Boheme at the age of six has long-lasting effects…just kidding…big thanks to Mom for taking us…that couldn’t have been easy), I do appreciate it. However, the floating stages featured in this thing every year actually took my breath away. How unbelievable are these?!?!?! I would give just about anything to see one of these in person.
Camera Workout: Week 11

This is what happens when Andrew and I try to take a photo together these days…one of us just won’t let it be nice.

First photo of me, Kayla, and baby Graham Cracker (it’s a boy! Nephew with an excellent name due to arrive in August!)

Old books of my grandmother’s. All these photos are from an art opening featuring her work. The Artisan Center in downtown Corydon is exhibiting Rosamond Sample‘s work for the next few weeks. My mom’s mom was a wonderful artist, amazing reader, hilarious, and my favorite kind of grandmother ever. I miss her.

More books…a bit ahead of the curve on the whole Kabbalah thing…

Her tools set up and on display.

Yes, I do realize that all my weeks photos are from one day this time. Sorry…I simply did not get out the camera any other day!
I wanted to find time to snap a few photos of my new favorite toy…suppose those can wait until next week. It is truly a sad day when you are this excited over a new vacuum cleaner…ahh I’m getting old.

Thanks to Bri Emery‘s divine pinboard, “Illustrated,” I found the delightful illustrations of Hazuki Miyahara.
I might be a little biased since he considers them to be “yoga” figures.
Watching the Oscars tonight?!? I am! Will be tweeting!

Last week at work I read aloud Black Dog by Levi Pinfold. Great little story and wonderful illustrations. Again, I feel so lucky to get paid to read, buy, and discover books like this every day.

Found these absolutely stunning photos via Colossal. But HELLO. So wonderful. French photographer Normann Szkop has captured some brilliant tulip fields in the Netherlands…along with some pretty amazing wind turbines.
There are over 100 photos in this series, found here.
Happy Friday Y’all!

Yay.
Not only is it Friday, but I had an excellent first week back–not sick and loving it. What’s a better way to celebrate Friday than with an illustrated diary excerpt from Susan Sontag?! I love Susan Sontag and San Francisco illustrator Wendy MacNaughton nails it. Found it on brainpickings and I’m hoping it’s the first of a series…
Macnaughton also did this:

LOVE. Love her. Check out her etsy, her website, and her blog.
