Yoga: Summer 2013

Yoga. I’m planning on doing and teaching a whole bunch of it this summer. I plan to study as much as possible, i.e. read a bunch from these books and try to practice (in some form) every day.

I’m adding a couple new things to my schedule at the studio  and I’m going to be teaching a couple classes in Louisville as well! What I’ve finally learned this year (especially since discovering YogaGlo) is that this practice is not linear. You have great days, okay days, and down right crappy days. Aches and pains (dang left hip!) can force you to focus on things you don’t naturally gravitate towards (backbending) and that is a good thing. I’ve officially left the Ashtanga vinyasa system for straight up vinyasa classes with Iyengar mixed in. Don’t get me wrong, I still love Ashtanga and would practice it regularly if I lived near this teacher, but I don’t, so my virtual instructors Kathryn Budig, Tiffany Cruikshank, Christina Sell, and Dice Iida-Klein along with various local teachers have taken over.

I look forward to a summer full of yoga with a little bit of Ashtanga thrown in there (I mean, come on Kino Macgregor is going to be at Yoga East again!) However, I am not going to give myself any specific yoga goals for the summer (I know, crazy right?!). I am just going to take it one day at a time.

If you’re a local reader and want to come practice with me, here’s my teaching schedule:

2nd & 4th Monday 5:45pm – 7:00pm Restorative Yoga

Tuesday 9:00am – 10:00am Yoga II *starts May 28th

Tuesday 6:00 – 7:00 pm Yoga for Healthy Living

Wednesday 4:00 – 5:00pm Yoga II

Thursday 6:00 – 7:00 pm Yoga for Healthy Living

Saturday 9:30 – 10:30 am  Flow Yoga

In addition to these ongoing classes, I’ll be offering three workshops, which will be $15.00

Strengthen Your Core                Saturday, May 25   11:00am – 12:30pm
Upper Body and Arm Strength    Saturday, June 1     11:00am – 12:30pm
Developing a Home Practice        Saturday, June 15   11:00am – 12:30pm

Hope to see you soon if you feel like yoga-ing in Kentuckiana!

too much to do

Diptic

I want to ask the question: how is it possible to be bored these days?

There is so much I want to do, read, see, make, eat, drink, watch, that at the end of every day I am left wishing I had a few hours.

I love this show and want to finish it, but also have this show and my favorite show ever starting back and I have still never seen The Wire, which let’s face it, I know I’m missing out big time.

I am reading this book, but also have another bookclub selection, and some books for work that I’d like to read…Not to mention the long awaited My Friend series that always just sits around waiting…

Then I get really overwhelmed when I start thinking about all the classes I want to do here…then I would also love to get back into running…then I would also love to cook every recipe on Sprouted Kitchen, Shutterbean, andhere.

Oh and I would also like to this restaurant, go to the Louisville Science Center to see this exhibit

PLUS……I would love to plan/go on a vacation, take more photos, more motorcycle rides, blog posts to write, blogs to read, cocktails to make, yoga workshops to attend, and ETC, ETC, ETC, ETC.

I love how accessible things are these days and how much Louisville has changed since I last lived here. There are too many options and I love it…but it kinda makes my head want to pop off…please tell me I’m not alone?!?!

Oh wait…I guess I also have to work too….

bummer.

some rando photos for a Happy Friday!

August 17, 2012 § 2 Comments

Happy Happy Happy Happy Friday y’all! I am so so so so so ready for this weekend. Life has been a little exhausting lately. I have been feeling pretty terrible all week with a nasty head cold…my entire workplace is overrun with it right now. I’m on the mend–felt pretty normal today.

These are some rando photos of daily life lately:

1. is that not the cutest boy you’ve ever seen!?!?
2. that cutest big boy dragging out ever one of my shoes and threatening to chew while I’m at work…including my Danskos, Jessica Simpson patent leather flats, Chacos, and various mary janes?!? That means shoes are being put up in strange places.
3. sick in bed w/ the Bagel Boys
4. my dishtowels are disgusting.
5. dogs and computers
6. menu planning for the week
7. not letting me make the bed…again
8. THE BAGEL BOYS
9.  the second wireless mouse Reuben has destroyed…he is the cutest boy right?!? At least that’s what I told myself as I swiped my card, purchasing another new mouse this afternoon.
10. EarthFare Louisville is now open! It is SOO nice! Great beer section, AMAZING bulk department…ahhh it was amazing. Too bad it’s so far from my house, I doubt I’ll regularly get over there.

No plans whatsoever for the weekend. THANK. GOD.

I am so excited for today’s edition of “Listen to This!”

The Louisville area now has its own local podcast! Woohoo! Twitter pals and bloggers Melissa and Linda are podcasting about life in Louisville at Louisville, Not Kentucky. It’s so fun to listen when I am familiar with the voices (or one voice, haven’t actually met Linda IRL…ha!) and the locales. I love podcasts and have often dreamed of doing one–it takes guts to put yourself out there and they are doing awesome!

Topics discussed on the first episode? Jungle Jim’s, bourbon, drag shows, Breaking Bad, and Romancing the Stone!! This was MADE for me! Ha!

Oh, and how adorable is their logo?!?! Designed by Kyle Ware.

Only because of the mutual, “OMG I’m finally watching Breaking Bad too!” feeling.

Happy Friday everyone! In a few weeks, I’ll be back to having true Happy Fridays (with the start of my new job!) for myself. The past few months it has been just another day for me. I’ve had a wonderful time being off, but am very much looking forward to getting back to work.

We had a wonderful first week at the studio! Many thanks to all who attended class–can’t wait to keep going!

Heading to Forecastle tomorrow. The company Andrew works for has a tent, that’s where we’ll be most of the day….except when Girl Talk comes on…at that point I imagine we’ll look something like this:

Haha, just kidding…Andrew likes to dance, but hates live music…does an engineer with a laptop count though?

Music and theater this weekend in Louisville

July 11, 2012 § Leave a Comment

Midway through another week. It might make me sound old and boring, but I’ll just say it: time is sure flying by lately. I feel like the weeks just keep barreling forward–we’re already halfway through July?! Say wha?!?!?

Excited for this coming weekend. Andrew and I are going to spend all day Saturday at the Forecastle Music Festival. I will finally get to dance my tail off to the spastic sounds of Girl Talk.

I also want to put in a plug for a new play opening tomorrow night at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. Eric Welch, a local actor and friend of a dear fellow yogini, co-wrote and produced this new production, Circus Circus. So exciting! The subject matter is a little controversial, but that usually makes for great theater in my opinion.

There are several other fun things theater and music related happening this weekend. Diana Krall? Shakespeare in the Park? Yes please.

Wow…we made the right decision!

Now that we’ve been living back home for over a year now, I can say this with confidence.

After living in Asheville,  Stavanger, Edinburgh, and Austin, I can honestly say that Kentuckiana is exactly where I want to be…and not just because it’s where I am from originally.

Louisville and the surrounding areas (yay Corydon!) are blossoming daily–full of new business, art, and culture. The area has all the comforts of city living, but all the charm of rural living.

I love love love this new video from Possibility City

Orbis Yoga — One of the Best in Louisville!

May 4, 2012 § 3 Comments

Happy Friday Y’all!! Also, Happy Oaks Day!

A few weeks ago a photographer came to class–great shots of the ladies at Orbis — many thanks to Julie!

Also, Orbis just got voted #4 best yoga studio in Louisville!

So wonderful — I have had the best experience with this course and am already getting sad to leave these ladies next month. We have been studying together since October and it is such a great group.

check out the class schedule at Orbis here.
