too much to do

I want to ask the question: how is it possible to be bored these days?

There is so much I want to do, read, see, make, eat, drink, watch, that at the end of every day I am left wishing I had a few hours.

I love this show and want to finish it, but also have this show and my favorite show ever starting back and I have still never seen The Wire, which let’s face it, I know I’m missing out big time.

I am reading this book, but also have another bookclub selection, and some books for work that I’d like to read…Not to mention the long awaited My Friend series that always just sits around waiting…

Then I get really overwhelmed when I start thinking about all the classes I want to do here…then I would also love to get back into running…then I would also love to cook every recipe on Sprouted Kitchen, Shutterbean, andhere.

Oh and I would also like to this restaurant, go to the Louisville Science Center to see this exhibit

PLUS……I would love to plan/go on a vacation, take more photos, more motorcycle rides, blog posts to write, blogs to read, cocktails to make, yoga workshops to attend, and ETC, ETC, ETC, ETC.

I love how accessible things are these days and how much Louisville has changed since I last lived here. There are too many options and I love it…but it kinda makes my head want to pop off…please tell me I’m not alone?!?!

Oh wait…I guess I also have to work too….

bummer.

Happy Friday Indeed!

Oh boy. Yes. Yes. Yes. It is Friday and next week is SPRRRRRING BREAK! It’s so funny to be back on a school schedule again. I have the next nine days off from librarian work, but I’m still teaching the yoga.

What do I have planned?

NOTHING….and I LOVE IT.

I plan to do a crap ton of yoga classes with this fine lady (20 minute per side pose flows!??! YES!), get all my knives sharpened, take a lot of dog walks, watch Enlightened…WHICH GOT CANCELLED?!?!?!? HBO: You’re treading on thin ice…

Also want to try and actually read some stuff as well as run around doing some super professional errands…you know, business like business stuff!

In the meantime, just enjoy some photos from my new favorite tumblr, Thumbs and Ammo…so good:

Whoever thought of this is pure genius.

life is better with…

Oh James Franco. I love you so much. And your instagram has been super good lately.

life would be better if…

We can all agree that life would be better if Theodore Lawrence (Laurie) was real. As a little kid I repeatedly watched the 1949 version of Little Women with Peter Lawford. And then in 1994, a new version appeared…

WHOA.

At this point in my life I was suffering from a Newsies induced Christian Bale obsession and this movie did not help that at all. Holy mackerel, I think this version is my favorite.

I watched it again recently over at my parents’ house for Christmas and basically kind of cried through the whole thing. That music?!?! Claire Danes’ wonderful chin wobble?! Christian Bale?! Gabriel Byrne?! Ahhh!

Probably one of my favorite endings ever…the score by Thomas Newman is simply the best:

Bah–love Little Women. Love, love, love, love, love, love it.

Favorite Watches of 2012

December 17, 2012 § Leave a Comment

Like this poster? Breaking Bad? Anyone? Typically, I have a somewhat irrational hatred for these “Keep Calm and…” posters, but this one made me smile.

My favorite television and movies of 2012. Of course please keep in mind that I have not seen Les Miserables yet (going with whole fam on Christmas Day! So excited!)

Life of Pi

Nashville (ABC)

Looper

Breaking Bad (AMC)

Girls (HBO)
I seriously have a love-hate relationship with this show. Regardless of things I don’t like about it, it is very well executed and does great things with music.

Mad Men (AMC)

Can you tell that I still think television is far better than movies these days?

Movies I’ll Watch a Million Times

November 28, 2012 § Leave a Comment

I’m in love with this series of audio clips from NPR featuring filmmakers, actors, actresses, writers, etc talking about those movies they will watch again and again.

Of course, I’ll never pass up the opportunity to offer my two cents. This list is the official “You’ve Got Mail” memorial list:

When Harry Met Sally…                                 Anne of Green Gables

Speed                                                                     Only You

And NO, of course I could never pick just one. I could barely narrow it down to these!

my gal pal round-up of living ladies to look up to

November 20, 2012 § 1 Comment

Happy Tuesday Y’all! I have Wednesday-Friday off, so it’s my Friday. yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

In addition, I have something to say about us ladies.

There was such a strong emphasis on the importance of “women” in this election. I put the word in quotations because I will never understand referring to 51% of the world’s population as a special interest group. And, as a lady who does not find weddings particularly interesting, does not wear makeup, and  does not have babies, a lot of target marketing and media is lost on me.

Here’s who I look to:

Tina Fey

Ina Garten

Terry Gross

Claire Danes

Ellen Degeneres

Joan Didion

Joy the Baker
For more sane lady talk, I also recommend:

The Hairpin
Jezebel
Slate’s DoubleX
SmartLadiesLoveStuff

I’ll be back a bunch this week with some fun stuff – yay for a work break + Thanksgiving + my birthday + wedding anniversary!

rainy mondays

October 1, 2012 § Leave a Comment

again, the weather on the weekend was flawless and it started raining on Monday morning. Third week in a row!?! I kinda love it. I take Mondays off from yoga and I don’t have to teach after work so I have been using these rainy autumn afternoons to catch up on my tv (uhhh like this show, and today this, and this).

Oh and speaking of watching stuff, go see Looper! Saw it this weekend and was blown away–sooooo good. JGL never fails me.

all this talk about the new movie Bachelorette, I am reminded of how much I love love love Bridesmaids. Kristen Wiig’s Annie is one of my favorite characters of the past couple of years.

I would love to be on a plane with her.

Listen to This!

Sifting through the RNC/DNC hoopla on NPR has been quite exhausting…So much so that a couple segments from NPR Science Friday made it today!

“One Gomer Can’t Understand What Bane is Saying”
Two Gomers Run for Their Lives — Aug 29, 2012

“Director Rian Johnson & more..”
Q with Jian Gomeshi – September 6, 2012

“The Importance of Strange Science”
Talk of the Nation Science Friday – September 7, 2012

“How Long is too Long?”
NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour – September 7, 2012

“‘Bachelorette’ Sounds Dark Comedic Depths”
Fresh Air — September 7, 2012

I’ve been in a little bit of a podcast slump lately…due to the overwhelming deluge of political content (not that I am not interested, but I can only take so much). I’ve decided to bounce over to PRI International and listen to back episodes of the programming there–Rach: you totally inspired me, will let you know what I find!
