Camera Workout: Week 18 and an appearance from Dress United!

Pretty pretty at Lis’ house.
Don’t care if it’s too obvious and touristy…best meal always.

I really wanted to get out my camera more on this trip, but it was raining pretty much the entire time I was there. Boo.
We found the Downtown Market….ahem…
Also, I want to include some special photos this week.

A little while back I was contacted by Dress United about featuring their custom t-shirt service. This service was ridiculously easy and I am seriously considering putting in an order for more. I am very picky when it comes to tshirts…let alone custom made ones. In my opinion, there is nothing worse than a custom tshirt that is super thick, heavy, and splattered with rough screenprinting. This shirt exceeded my expectations in almost every way. Not only is it super duper soft, but the images are seamlessly printed onto the shirt as if they’ve been there forever.
Thank you so much for this opportunity Dress United. I can’t wait to show it off around town.
Alright y’all, I’ll catch you later. I’ve got to get off the computer and hobble to work. Kathryn Budig was UHHHHHH-mazing, but boy am I sore! (in a good way!)
Happy Friday!

This week flew by! Yay!
Excited that one week from today I’ll be on my way down to Asheville to see Lis, eat amazing tapas, attend a beer festival, and a KATHRYN BUDIG YOGA WORKSHOP! She is one of my favorite yogaglo teachers and I cannot wait to be in her class.
This photo was from my college days living with Lis…one of my favorites.
Camera Workout: Week 15

Spring has sprung. Thank god. How beautiful is this little globe of beads? That’s all Mom right there.

I made it over four years of marriage video game free…it was nice while it lasted.

Trying to make sense of a chaotic kitchen…the relentless of dishes always gets me down.

This is what real life looks like when you have black kitchen floors and two beagle mixes that are shedding their winter coats. gross.

Really enjoying my yoga lately…again, YogaGlo has been a complete and total game changer.

Heard this book recommended on one of my favorite podcasts, went straight to library. They weren’t kidding. Wow.

With Mom in Tybee all week, this poor guy was a little lost.

Had a great weekend full of motorcycle rides. An odd combination of absolutely terrifying and total fun.

Dandelions!

Cannot believe how fast this weekly post comes around. Things are moving rather quickly it seems like lately…

What a great month!
Andrew started new job (and bonus…seems to really like it!), I got a raise + possible benefits at my day job (!!!!), and had great attendance at the studio (I love my students). However, I have developed an addiction to Lotsa Pasta frozen calzones that needs to be addressed and the weather was pretty poor (snow on my spring break!? BOO).
Unfortunately for Andrew, I have also been listening to the new Blake Shelton album on repeat which is truly deplorable. I think every song has the words “beer,” “truck,” “blue jeans,” “sweet tea,” “moonlight,” “redneck,” about 10 times…ahhh it’s good, so so good. I have thrown this song in for good measure…equally annoying in a totally different way.
Also my library got about 1000x more fun when my shipment of new books arrived mid-month…now we have all 18 Elephant & Piggie books to read over and over again! Victory!
too much to do

I want to ask the question: how is it possible to be bored these days?
There is so much I want to do, read, see, make, eat, drink, watch, that at the end of every day I am left wishing I had a few hours.
I love this show and want to finish it, but also have this show and my favorite show ever starting back and I have still never seen The Wire, which let’s face it, I know I’m missing out big time.
I am reading this book, but also have another bookclub selection, and some books for work that I’d like to read…Not to mention the long awaited My Friend series that always just sits around waiting…
Then I get really overwhelmed when I start thinking about all the classes I want to do here…then I would also love to get back into running…then I would also love to cook every recipe on Sprouted Kitchen, Shutterbean, andhere.
Oh and I would also like to this restaurant, go to the Louisville Science Center to see this exhibit.
PLUS……I would love to plan/go on a vacation, take more photos, more motorcycle rides, blog posts to write, blogs to read, cocktails to make, yoga workshops to attend, and ETC, ETC, ETC, ETC.
I love how accessible things are these days and how much Louisville has changed since I last lived here. There are too many options and I love it…but it kinda makes my head want to pop off…please tell me I’m not alone?!?!
Oh wait…I guess I also have to work too….
bummer.
Happy Friday Indeed!

Oh boy. Yes. Yes. Yes. It is Friday and next week is SPRRRRRING BREAK! It’s so funny to be back on a school schedule again. I have the next nine days off from librarian work, but I’m still teaching the yoga.
What do I have planned?
NOTHING….and I LOVE IT.
I plan to do a crap ton of yoga classes with this fine lady (20 minute per side pose flows!??! YES!), get all my knives sharpened, take a lot of dog walks, watch Enlightened…WHICH GOT CANCELLED?!?!?!? HBO: You’re treading on thin ice…
Also want to try and actually read some stuff as well as run around doing some super professional errands…you know, business like business stuff!
In the meantime, just enjoy some photos from my new favorite tumblr, Thumbs and Ammo…so good:

It has been a yoga filled week! Taught five classes Monday-Thursday…phew! Love it though. I had a great week and there was lots of exciting news job wise (for Andrew, not me).
Small victories this week:
1) I did not watch the Bachelor (did power DVR it though…fast forwarding through, etc). This is big people…baby steps.
2) a 2 hour delay at school on Wednesday resulted in a some fabulous early morning yoga time…thinking I might make this a habit.
3) I am already three books in to my 2013 goal! Read this book this week…unfortunately I was NOT a fan.
But, can you hear that?!? It’s a three day weekend! Woohoo! I have Monday off for MLK day and couldn’t be happier about it.
Restorative Yoga
January 13, 2013 § 2 Comments
New class starting at the studio…tomorrow!
I’m pretty excited to begin offering a bi-monthly restorative class. Restorative yoga uses lots of props and is focused primarily on relaxation and the therapeutic benefits of yoga. Most postures are on the floor, lying down with blocks, belts, and blankets supporting the body.
Music accompanies this practice (yay!) Ahhh………Spotify is the greatest.
This class will be offered the second and fourth Monday of every month, 5:45pm – 7:00pm, with a different focus each session:
01/14 Stress Relief
01/28 Lower Back
02/11 Shoulders
02/25 Hips
03/11 Breathing
03/25 Arthritis Relief
04/08 Release Tension
04/22 Upper Back
Cost: $8 per class
Because we use a ton of props in this class, space is limited. If you would like to attend any of these sessions, please let me know the day of (or a little earlier if you’re into organization, I don’t mind!).
You can call or text me: 812-736-1949 or reserve a spot by email: graylinporter@gmail.com
less is more
January 7, 2013 § 2 Comments
You might have noticed that I’ve made a few little changes around here. I had a blog epiphany several days ago. I realized that less is more. I have streamlined my post categories, pages, etc. I want to focus on quality over quantity and get organized in the new year.
I still hope to bring you podcast recs, fictional characters, and nifty art, but will do so under the series “Life is Better With…” I hope to post more about yoga and news on the studio on Capitol Avenue. And lastly, I want to use this space as a motivator to paint more! (Etsy shop, Etsy shop, Etsy shop) I will also continue to obnoxiously celebrate Fridays and share my Instagram photos.
And tomorrow I will start a new series: Camera Workout 2013. I am doing a weekly photo project that will FORCE me to use the Pentax more and more. Week one will be up tomorrow!
Meanwhile, if you read this blog, I would LOVE to hear from you. What do you like? What would you like to see? Would you be interested in sharing some of your favorites things?

resolutions 2013
January 1, 2013 § 7 Comments

I have no idea why, but I tend to get into New Year’s Resolutions. Last year, I made four and posted them to this blog. And lo and behold, I completed all of them (sort of)! Woohoo!
I really love self-imposed deadlines and structure…just ask Andrew, he’ll tell you all about it. I have no idea why, but for some reason if I give myself an official task/goal/timeline/resolution, I’m able to follow through…it’s when I have no deadlines or guidelines that I flounder. I thrive in a structured environment…which I know now is why I enjoy working at the land of extreme routine: an elementary school.
Also, I think it helps that I like to pick obtainable goals that are specific with lots of detail. No abstract aspirations like “be healthier!” I need something concrete that allows me to chart my progress.
So here are some resolutions for 2013:
1. Watch NCAA basketball pre-March Madness.
Yeah…so I know this seems silly, but every single year I don’t watch at all until the tournament. This year will be different! I’ve already started on this one…so far, so good.
2. Read at least 30 books.
Had this same one last year and just barely made it (I might still be working on one right now…whoops). However, this year I want to read at least 6 in this series, my 12 bookclub selections, plus my own picks. I want to be better on this one…always…
3. Set up an Etsy shop
I have made an account, now I just have to take photos of my artwork/cards and get my stuff online. I have so many ideas for this, but have yet to actually DO any of them. Not anymore, it’s happening.
4. If I get sick, TRY NOT TO BE SUCH A BABY.
This is honest, real talk. I need to get an attitude about not feeling well. I tend to complain, let it get me down, etc. I know this is a bit abstract, but I seriously want to try and be better about this.
5. Try to conquer my fear of going upside down (in yoga)
Pay close, close attention to the wording in this last resolution. I have very purposefully set the intention to “try” to conquer this fear not that I will definitely. I have been practicing yoga since 2007 and while I can easily twist and balance in some seriously advanced postures, I am unable to consistently practice headstand, forearm stand, & handstand because of an irrational fear of getting my hips over my head. Part of me thinks this has to do with an inner ear issue I have inherited from my Dad, but I think it’s worth another year of practice.
Also: I am going to switch up the way I blog (just a little bit). What I do know is that I want to use my camera more. So I’m thinking about a weekly photo blog a la Tracy Shutterbean. I’ll keep you posted!
